~Sara & Darcy in MN~ adopted Sport just look at him now!!!!

"This is the tiny Yorkie pup that has the bad heart.  His gums have some pink in them but we are trying to keep in calm and that is really a chore as he does not know how sick he really is.  You can feel the murmur in his chest when you are holding him.
Robin  Heberer"

UPDATE.

Dr. Eyster had another successful but surprising PDA surgery yesterday.
Sport, the little male Yorkie had a HUGE PDA that was even bigger than
it appeared from all the pre-tests.  His left ventricle was greatly
enlarged and he had quite a serious second heart murmur from the valve
not being able to close because the heart muscle was so stretched out
from working so hard.  But again, by the time they were finishing sewing
up the last stitches, his heart sounded almost normal!
The cost was almost $500 but this is still less than normal charges.
I will try and get post-op pictures next week.

I am writing to all of you tonight with some new information about our little fighter. This information has filled me with such a sense of awe, appreciation and joy that I must share it with my PMR family.

We contacted the University of Michigan veterinary hospital and asked for copies of Daunte's medical records to have in his vet file here.  First thing I read is the x-ray report. It says "...it can safely be said that the heart is huge." It also tells of his lungs being filled with fluid throughout. He weighed 2 pounds.  His temperament was excellent. It goes on to say, "We wish you the best of luck with Sport (Daunte) - he was a very sweet boy, and it was a pleasure to work with both of you. We hope he finds a wonderful home." These were statements dictated by Dr. Eyster.

Next group of reports was from Daunte's neutering. I knew that he had a very rough time with this, but I was not at all prepared for what I read here.  Here is what the operative report said: "As Sport was being undraped, his color was noted to be pale. Suddenly his breathing and heart sounds were no longer audible. Sport suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest at this time. His heart was stopped for 1-2 minutes and was restarted with the help of 2 doses of epinephrine IV and thoracic massage."

Our precious baby, entrusted to us by all of you, saved by all of you with the skills of Dr. Eyster, went to the bridge and with the skills of the staff at the University of Michigan Veterinary college came back to find his forever home. I cannot begin to tell you how blessed we feel to know this energetic, healthy, beautiful, mischievous boy has seen the bridge and came back for a chance to share his life with us.

Once again, we want to thank all of you, for without your generous donations and wonderful contacts with the U of MI, none of this would have been possible.

Here is a picture taken of him tonight - on the back of the couch, looking out the window- one of his favorite activities.
