SKIPPY

I adopted Skippy from PMR about 2 yrs ago. He was a special case at that time. The reason being was that he had spent some time with Foster mom with no takers because he had a marking issue; which since has pretty much been resolved with use of belly bands.

The story of Skip's adoption was even more remarkable than any of us had realized. I truly believe it was God's work behind it.

You see, at the time, I had recently lost a wonderful little white peekapoo named Gidget. I had gone away on a ski trip and left my favorite little dog with my mom. While I was away, I was contacted with the most heartbreaking news. Gidget had somehow broke away from my mom while on a leash, and was sadly hit by a vehicle in traffic. I was completely heartbroken.

At that time, I had just lost my favorite aunt to cancer. She had been an important influence in my life and I took this trip to try relax and relieve the stress of the situation, only to return home and find that I had lost my special friend. I have owned other pets in my life, but Gidget was very special to me. I had a very special bond with this little dog. I had obtained Gidget right after I had found out that I could not bear children.

She became very important to me. My husband suggested that even though it had been recent that I had lost Gidget, perhaps I should seek out another peekapoo to replace the emptiness that I was experiencing. That is when I came across PMR's website. Initially I was drawn to Skippy as he reminded me so much of my "Gidget", but I only brief skimmed through the photos. I actually contacted PMR about a little Yorkshire terrier who looked very sad and I was concerned about replacing Gidget. PMR contacted in me return and suggested that they had a perfect match for me if I would consider another dog.

Lo and Behold; the little dog they suggested was Skippy(my first connection).

I was a little concerned about his marking issues, but they assured me that with the proper care and patience, he would probably come around. Skippy was a very sad case. He was a very young pup when he was rescued; very thin, abused, and frightened. He was taken in by a woman (a true Angel) Jackie Inman  who nurtured him back to health and smothered him with love and attention.

I ultimately decided to give Skippy a try and told PMR I would take him. What is so remarkable; yet very sad, is that it could not have come at a better time. You see, Skip's foster mom had become very ill and was going to be hospitalized and treated for quite some time. She was very concerned about what would happen to Skippy, and then remarkably, here I was looking for a small white dog to replace the one that I had lost. I kept in touch with Skippy's foster mom for a little bit, but then I moved away and lost contact with her. I hope that GOD has seen her through her difficult time. If she is out there somewhere, I just wanted to let her know that Skippy has become a wonderful little companion; thanks to the love and kindness that she showed him.

When we first received Skippy, he would only sleep on the blanket that she had provided for him. He still wanted to be near her and kept her blanket and her toys that she had given him for almost one year. It was his security. With time, love and patience, Skippy has warmed up to me and my husband and his two new roommates wonderfully.

He gives kisses, plays, leaps and runs(all of which he was unable to do when rescued), and he has blossomed into the most beautiful little dog you have ever seen. He never leaves my side(much like my Gidget), and I have grown to love and bond with this little dog more than I had ever imagined. He will never replace my Gidget, but he has found a space in my heart that had been empty and he filled it beautifully. I have forgotten the name of his foster mom. I only remember that Skippy had come from Michigan and we drove all the way to New York to retrieve him with the help of some wonderful volunteers through PMR.

I hope that she is well and I want her to know that Skippy is doing well and is loved. I came across PMR website the other day and was very saddened to see that still so many little souls are in search of a forever home. However, they are very lucky to have PMR to give them another chance as Skippy had been given. I hope that others will read this story and it will touch them in some way that they may find it in their hearts to give one of these little lost souls a second chance at life. After finding Skippy and the unique story behind it, I have to realize that GOD works in mysterious ways, and truly believe now that certain events happen for reason no matter how difficult they are to understand. May GOD bless PMR for the wonderful work that they are trying to accomplish. I wish the very best to all volunteers and the people who offer these wonderful little creatures a second chance at life.

I am resending pic of Skippy in his new life along with his new siblings.

God Bless.
