Peaches   (a.k.a. Shauna)

Peaches aka Shauna went to Rainbow bridge 3/02/02

My name is Shauna “Peaches” Crutchfield and this is my story….
I’ve only had a name since some wonderful people representing PMR rescued me.   They took me to a place with a lot of other dogs.  Kind of like the place I use to live.  Except at this new place, we don’t spend all our time in a little wire cage.  “Am I home?”  I wondered.  The lady at this place is so nice.   Her name is Gail and she gives me good food to eat, talks to me and holds me.   “Oh.”  I thought, “ I hope this is my new home!”
One day, Ms. Gail took me and some of my other friends to see a doctor.  I was very afraid.  But, they gave me some medicine and I went to sleep.  When I woke up, my tummy felt different and my mouth was very sore.   Ms. Gail said I was spayed now and wouldn’t have to ever have any more babies and have them taken away from me.  She also said I had all but three of my teeth pulled.   She gave me some medicine in my mouth and made my food soft so I could eat.   But, it still hurt.  So I couldn’t eat very much.    And, now my tongue hangs out.
few days later, Ms. Gail told me I was going on a trip to my forever home.  She gave me a blanket and a fuzzy fish that my new hu-Mom had sent to me.   She also gave me a bath and put me in some smelly stuff.  The next morning (it was still dark), Gail took some other dogs and me for a ride in her van.  She put me in a cage with my friend Jerry.  We went to what Gail called the airport.  Next thing I knew, Ms. Gail was saying  “Goodbye” and we (Jerry and I) were put in a place with lots of boxes with handles on them.  Then the door was closed.  It was dark, very noisy and strange.   Jerry and I were afraid, but very glad to have each other for comfort.   There was a bump and a little while later, the door was opened and we were carried to another place.
Suddenly, there were these two faces looking at us in our crate, with silly smiles and saying “hello” in funny voices.   They carried our crate into this little room with a big white water bowl and opened the door to our crate.   They knew our names and were still talking in those funny voices.   Oh, it was so good to get out of that crate.  (No offense, Jerry, but a girl needs her space.)   Now one of these ladies was putting Jerry in another crate and I had to go back into my crate alone.   We were going in opposite directions.    “Goodbye Jerry!  Have a great life!”  I thought.
My new hu-Mom talked to me all the way to my new home.  She just kept saying how glad she was that I was here safe and sound and that no one would ever hurt me again; that I was loved.  I wonder what that means?  Loved?   She told me I look more like a Peaches to her, so now I’m called Peaches.  I like it.
When we got to my new forever home,  my new hu-Mom had all kinds of toys and a big pillow for me to lie on.    She was so excited that I was there, she forgot that I hadn’t pottied in hours.  I promptly marked the rug.  Actually, I just had to pee-pee so bad; I couldn’t hold it any longer.    Guess what?  My new hu-Mom just laughed, said it was OK, and cleaned the carpet.  She said it was her fault and then she and I went for a potty walk and talk outside.  She talks a lot!  But, I think I like her.  She made me some good soft food.   Boy, was I hungry after my trip.  She said not to worry, that she would take care of me and fatten me back up.
After a few days, I had to go meet my new doctor.  Her name is Dr. B.  She’s really nice, but I didn’t want her to look in my mouth.  It’s still sore, so I don’t like anyone to touch it.   I’m 10 years old.  My papers say I was born in 1989, but has no date.  So my birthday is now November 4.  That’s the day I arrived at my FOREVER HOME!
She told my mom (she's just Mom now) that I have a heart murmur, but she was most concerned I might have Cushins.   She wanted me to take some medicine, wait a few weeks and recheck me during that time.   She also, told my mom to give me Oatmeal baths for my itchy skin condition.    So now I get two oatmeal baths every week.
Well, a couple of weeks passed and I got a little of my weight back and my hair is growing back on my rear end.  When I went back to see Dr. B, she was so pleased, she said maybe I don't have Cushins after all.
Here is a picture of me with my new fur-cousin, Princess.   Yeah, I know she’s bigger than I am, but she’s only a puppy, so I’m the boss and she knows it.
Every day at my new forever home gets better and better.  Not only does my Mom love and spoil me, but I have my Grand-hu-Mom wrapped around my little paw.
Well, it’s been about 4 months now.   My mom says I am the most wonderful furkid in the world.  I’m still shy of men.  They make me nervous, so I bark at them.    And, sometimes I get aggravated at Princess, my furcuz.   All she wants to do is run and play.  I’m just too old for that and, when I get enough of her antics, I let her know.  I show her my three teeth and she just backs off.    See, I’m still boss!
Here are a few more photos of whom else?   ME!!!

Now I'm a Georgia Peach.  I now know what being loved is and I love being FREE!!!
Thank you, Lord!  Thank you Ms. Gail!  Thank you Ms. Jean!  Thank you, PMR!!!
