Update 1/29/04

Four Years later

Peepers before picture     Dinky...before...

Hello to All !!
I am sending my hellos and to tell you Peepers and
Dinky are doing GREAT !!  We are adjusting well and
enjoying the new "fur babies" in our home.
At first house training was challenging. I am glad
to say it is all going better than even I expected.
These little ones are so very smart. They have figured
out exactly which door to go out and stand near it when
they need to go potty! Dinky even knows where I keep
the treats, runs toward them and waits eagerly for a
treat after he has gone potty. I am lucky to be able to
stay home with them almost all the time. When I am not
home, Jeff is and they are really getting very use to us
both. I think this helps with the house training.
Peepers has begun to bark aloud when she hears unusual
noises. I call her "le chein de gaurde"! That's French
for guard dog! I don't mind her barking because I feel
like she is comfortable enough to be herself. When
Dinky feels real rambunkous he will run through the
house like a crazy man and end up on a pile of towels I
leave on the floor for him. Just the fact they show me a
real part of their personality makes me feel we have had
good progress.
I found a great vet and went for a second check up
yesterday. Both dogs are in good health. We thought
Dinky may have a cataract on his right eye. NO, just a
scar from a possible fight with another dog. The good
news is Peepers hair on her face is turning a "honey"
color and she has grown a light layer of "peach-fuzz"
all over her back where she has no hair! Can you believe
it? The doctor says with her new warm indoor living
quarters, healthy meals and "stress less" environment
she just may grow her hair back. We just have to wait a
few more month. We would be surprised to see her have
hair but we really love her just the way she is right
now. Anyway, we cross our fingers for a positive outcome.
So many people have congratulated us for adopting
two dogs but we feel like the lucky ones in the whole
deal. These two have brought us so much happiness I feel
like the one blessed and fall in love with them more
each day. I truly feel like they are happy here, too. A
million thanks to Jean for having faith in me to be the
best mommy and to Vicki for the beautiful sweaters and
words of encouragement. Most especially to everyone who
participate in this organization and for having such a
strong faith in PMRescue!
   Best wishes for all.........

 Update 3 months later.......

Well, it has been 3 months since the "babies" came
to live with us and we all have made remarkable
progress. Both dogs are doing well and seem very, very
happy.
They both have gained weight. Peepers is now 4
pounds and, while she does not like snacks, eats three
solid meals a day! She is such a smart girl and has
obviously been the dominant dog of the two for a very
long time. She has learned to "sit", "stay" "laydown"
and will hop in her "traveling basket" when I
say, "let’s go"! Her hair on her head is growing enough
that I now put little barrettes in it to hold her hair
out of her eyes. Oh, I love her so much!
Dinky is the other love of my life. He is now 5
pounds and ever so cute. His hair has grown and is a
gorgeous shiny coat. When his tongue sticks out and he
tilts his head it make our hearts MELT! He hasn't
learned the tricks Peepers knows but I don't care. Just
getting him to stop hiding in the corner was hard
enough. I don't expect anything else from him except to
know no one will ever hurt him again.
The best thing is both dogs are successfully
housetrained and have learned to jump on and off the
sofa, which is where they love to sit and watch or just
sleep. It has given all of us a great deal of
independence. We can let them roam throughout the house
as they wish, which is great, because they hated being
locked in their den area when we could not watch them.
We love to look at the website and see all the
available dogs and all the adopted dogs. Congratulations
to all the adoptive parents and to Dawn Bowen for taking
Sally (who is Dinky's aunt). I was upset to hear how sad
she was and knew she would soon find a loving home!
Having my dogs has made me unbelievably happy and
I have learned a lot about being the parent of rescued
dogs. I have learned there are many people who do not
know what a puppymill is. I wish I could tell the world
the plight of puppymill dogs. Instead I choose to spread
the word every chance I get. When I take the babies out
I get a lot of attention and when someone wants to
admire my dogs I will let them. Then I explain Peepers &
Dinky's former situation and ask them to avoid petstore
animals for sale and give them the website address. If a
passenger on the airplane has a dog on board I take the
opportunity to spread the word and ask them to look at
the website. I feel it is my obligation and hope it
helps other people become informed.
Well, bye for now. Puppymillrescue.org is a
success and lets all keep up the good work! Enjoy the
new pictures of my little angels.
