BlackJack has a real home at last. |

Blackjack has led a very hard life.
He was born in one of the largest
Chihuahua mills in the State of Missouri on 2/25/95.
He was sold as a young pup, but
unfortunately it was not to a loving home but to another mill. There he
stayed fathering litter after litter until he was released into rescue.
He thought he had found his forever home but after a short time he was
returned as he did not adjust as fast as his family had expected him to.
Blackjack is scared and is not a cuddly little dog.
We cannot guarantee that he
will ever be one that wants to be picked up. He takes awhile to trust
and needs a very understanding and patient home. He weighs about 6 1/2
pounds.
He loves to play with the other dogs.
And adores squeaky latex toys. The
more noise he can get them to make the better.
Blackjack only has a few teeth left due to his years in the mill. But this
does not stop him from eating his kibble which he absolutely loves. He likes
to gum the chewies with the rest of the crew. And we have found that he
adores potato chips. His eyes light up and he will come to you to get a
chip.
Blackjack is looking for his forever home. He needs a home that is quiet
and has a fenced in yard. He gets along with all the others here unless they
look at his food bowl. He likes to bark at the cat, who just stares at him.
We do need to let you know that he was bullying some of the smaller dogs in
one of his foster homes. So we are not sure how he would react with a very
submissive smaller dog.

I want to personally thank Two
Ladies for their extraordinary large hearts and a long journey to make
sure tiny Blackjack got home without too much trauma.......
Penny
and Robin drove in terrible freezing ice storms hundreds of miles for this
little dog I am so proud to know them. |
| May 2003 update
It
has been quite a while since I have reported in about Blackjack's
new home. Well, lots of things have changed. My backyard is now all
fenced in, my little guy sleeps on the pillow next to me. It all
started with him standing in my bedroom doorway and checking us all
out every night. He then progressed to sleeping on the blanket at
the bottom of my bed (on the floor) to sleeping on the little
homemade bed right across from me on the floor to TADAH!! I picked
him up one night and took him into the bedroom, slipped into bed and
casually put him on the other side of me, turned over quietly and
snuggled down to sleep. He stood there for about 10 min with his
ears tuned in to whatever could happen. When nothing did, he did his
little scrunching up the covers dance and settled in for the night.
He now is up with everyone and out the back door to run free and mark
everything outside. It is so funny - like a contest between Luke &
Blackjack. L marks, BJ marks, L remarks, BJ remarks. It got so
intense one day they were almost peeing on each other. It is so
funny to watch. He also chases the cats and puts that big ole 56lb
Zorin in his place when needed. He still isn't a cuddly little guy
but that's ok. Whenever he is ready, we are here. Only one thing
wrong; between little snores, BIG snores & a little snufflufagus when
do I sleep?

| The Latest...............
Just had to relate this. At 6:30 this morning, I took Blackjack out
by himself. He really doesn't like to be out with everyone else -
they are too busy in the morning. Well, he did his business very
well. We came back into the back hallway, I picked him up as usual
to take the lease off and couldn't resist trying to smoosh him. I
had him in my left arm, put my right hand on the side of his face and
brought my face close to him. He had the look of a deer in
headlights but is getting used to me trying new things. Well, he
wiggled a little but I was cooing to him and started giving little
tiny kisses to his oh so little cheek. He settled down and I thought
I had it made at that time. Foolish me - he was pooping all the
time!! I don't know where it all came from as he left quite a
large "business" in the yard.
I will try again tomorrow but will be smart enough to do it outside.

| and another..............
Where can I go in this house? I don't want anybody to think I look
around when it's daytime. HeHeHe they think I just stay in this bed
and only come out when I see french fries, potato chips and FOOD!!
I got caught last night moving from the living room to the dining
room where there is another soft, comfy bed. I didn't realize that
Mom could see right out her bedroom door and look right into my
eyes. I lay real still but I think my radar ears gave me away. I
could see Cooper, Luke & Zorin in her room. Mom was saying, "Alright
you guys stop fooling around and get into bed, it's late." I waited
until they were all quiet and then I made my move. Ever so slowly I
got out of the other bed, walked with my chest out (and I've got the
chest to be out there) and snuck into Mom's room (that's who she
keeps telling me she is) and looked in to see what all the fuss was
about. Boy that is a big bed. I don't think I could get up there.
I don't know yet if I want to try. Those big boys are wild
sometimes; jumpin' and rollin' around.
Cooper spied me and did his wiggly thing he always does and then that
crazy howling, boy almost sounds like he's talking. I had had enough
for one night but it looks pretty neat in there. Maybe I'll try
again tonight.
Oh yes, it was warm outside today and I didn't even need my sweater.
Mom takes me out by myself because of the nutso kids. I can't even
pee a whole pee whenever they are out with me so we go out by
ourselves. Mom stands ever so still because if she moves I get a
little scared. I am on a long leash (can't wait for the fence in a
few weeks so I can run fast) so I can go pretty far. I'll tell you
if I go in there again.
It's me Blackjack
